Phone tickets, reusable smart cards and cash are all documented payment options for Chester County’s ChescoBus routes. Before choosing one, riders should check the fare instructions and whether their phone can run the app.
The Transportation Management Association of Chester County, or TMACC, manages ChescoBus. Its SCCOOT schedule covers Oxford to West Chester on weekdays. The Coatesville LINK schedule covers Coatesville to Parkesburg, Monday through Saturday.
How phone tickets and cards work
TMACC described its partnership with fare technology company Modeshift in a December 2025 announcement. The system combines ticket purchases, stored passes and trip planning. This is an existing service, rather than a newly announced rollout.
Start with the operator’s ChescoBus Pass portal, which links to the iPhone and Android apps. TMACC says fares purchased on the website are stored and used in the app.
The portal FAQ lists credit, debit and prepaid cards for purchases. At boarding, open the Tickets tab, select the fare and present its QR code to the scanner at the bottom of the bus validator. A smart card is tapped at the top of that device.
The FAQ says reusable smart cards are available from TMACC at 7 Great Valley Parkway, Suite 144, in Malvern. Riders seeking reduced fares through the app must provide eligibility documentation and their account email at the customer service center.
Cash remains a documented option
Although TMACC’s announcement promotes going cashless, the portal’s terms, dated October 2025, explicitly retain cash payment. Both route schedules linked above also print an exact change requirement and say the driver does not make change.
The schedules and TMACC’s current service page list a regular single trip at $3.25, ten trips at $26 and a monthly pass at $104. Check the fare and expiration terms shown before completing an electronic purchase. The portal terms identify those as details displayed during purchase.
Prepare for a weak signal and check phone compatibility
According to the FAQ, tickets already purchased can still be used and validated without internet service. Buying a new ticket requires a connection. Purchase before heading to the stop and keep the phone charged enough to display the ticket.
There is a discrepancy in the published iPhone requirements. The FAQ says iOS 10 or later, while the current Apple listing requires iOS 15.1 or later. Check the store listing and whether installation works on the actual device before relying on it for a trip. The operator also links to the Android listing.
Keep service alerts separate from payment
TMACC directs riders to Krapf’s Coaches at 610 431 1500 for bus status and route questions. Its service page points to ReadyChesCo for delay and cancellation messages by phone or email.
Our ReadyChesCo account and alert guide explains the registration and subscription settings. More local technology reporting is available in the Chester County coverage hub.
