Chester County residents who use ReadyChesCo have two settings worth checking: their account access and the alerts they expect to receive. The county's public notification portal directs both new and returning users to an Everbridge Community Profile, while its FAQ makes clear that weather alerts require a separate source.
The ReadyChesCo portal, operated by the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, describes a free service for emergency and government notices. County and local officials can send messages about evacuations, instructions to remain indoors, missing people and other community matters. Mobile carrier charges for texts, data or calls may still apply.
What returning users need to know
The portal says an Everbridge Community Profile is required before signing in to an existing ReadyChesCo account or creating a new one. Returning subscribers who create that profile should have their existing ReadyChesCo account linked automatically, according to the instructions displayed on the site.
An error saying the system cannot find an Everbridge account means the Community Profile has not yet been created, the portal explains. Its Create Account link is the starting point for that step. New subscribers are then prompted to set their ReadyChesCo notification preferences.
Choose the address and alerts that matter
The county's service overview tells users to enter their contact details and the Chester County address they want notifications for. They can choose delivery methods, including phone, text and email, and select alert subscriptions. Locations, subscriptions and contact methods can be edited later in the profile.
Township messages can cover ordinary disruptions as well as emergencies. East Goshen Township, for example, lists office closures, trash and recycling interruptions, travel advisories and board meeting changes among its ReadyChesCo updates. Existing subscribers can add the township's alerts through their current account.
That makes subscription choices useful to review even when a phone number has not changed. A county account and a particular township subscription serve different information needs.
Weather warnings use a separate system
ReadyChesCo's current FAQ says it stopped offering weather notifications on September 1, 2020. It directs residents to enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on their smartphones for emergency weather warnings.
The National Weather Service explains that Wireless Emergency Alerts reach compatible phones through participating mobile carriers without an app or a subscription. They are separate from local services that ask residents to register a phone number or email address.
Those automatic warnings also have limits. The weather service says severe thunderstorm warnings trigger Wireless Emergency Alerts only when the damage threat is classified as destructive. Flash flood warnings qualify when the threat is considerable or catastrophic. A phone's silence therefore should not be treated as a complete account of local weather conditions.
Keep contact details current
ReadyChesCo's FAQ advises subscribers to update their profile when a phone number or email address changes. It also explains why some messages request confirmation: acknowledging receipt stops the system from trying the other delivery methods on the account.
Residents who need help with the service can contact [email protected], the support address listed in the FAQ. The public portal and its instructions were checked on September 27, 2026.
