Immaculata adds broadcast and podcast studios in Chester County

University records explain the production spaces, related degree tracks and access details still worth confirming.

Immaculata University has added broadcast and podcast studios and a digital media computer lab inside Gabriele Library in Chester County.

The university’s October 29 announcement describes facilities on the library’s terrace level. The dedication took place October 1, so the announcement date should not be read as the first day of use.

Three spaces for different production tasks

The university describes the broadcast studio as a place to practice presenting on camera, interviewing and making video. The podcast studio supports audio recording and production. Computers in the digital media lab support related coursework.

Its announcement credits Steven Cohen and the Cohen Family with funding the studios. It also identifies a $3.3 million legacy gift supporting library improvements and work elsewhere on campus. That broader gift is not an itemized studio price.

How the spaces fit the curriculum

The 2026 to 2027 undergraduate catalog lists separate digital communication tracks in media and design, alongside public relations and journalism. It also lists an Interactive Media bachelor’s degree and a Social Media Digital Creator minor.

Those distinctions matter for a student comparing programs. A room equipped for recording does not, by itself, explain which production courses a particular degree requires.

The university’s communication program description separates broadcast media from graphic design within digital communication. It describes video, audio and digital content among the skills taught. Students interested in operating cameras or producing a podcast should compare the course requirements with an adviser, rather than treating every communication track as the same technical program.

Confirm access before planning a recording

The Gabriele Library page describes a service supporting university teaching and research and lists general building hours. Those hours are not a published studio reservation schedule.

The records reviewed do not establish public studio rentals, equipment checkout rules or a complete hardware and software inventory. They also do not show which classes have reserved studio time. Prospective users need those details before planning a project.

The academic department’s contact page lists chair Sean Flannery at [email protected]. Students can ask which courses use the facilities, what training is required and how access is arranged. These are questions to confirm, not published conditions of use.

Residents working on existing family recordings can consult our separate Kennett Library digitization guide, which covers VHS conversion, photo scanning and file storage. That service has its own equipment and appointment rules.
