Tredyffrin Township supervisors approved a five year police body camera renewal on October 5, with listed payments totaling $394,822.51 from 2027 through 2031. Separate camera and server amounts in the township’s preliminary 2027 budget remain proposals.
For residents following technology spending in this Chester County township, the records describe different decisions: continuing an existing police camera service and planning other security camera work.
What the body camera renewal costs
The October 5 minutes, on pages 1 and 2, record unanimous approval of a five year renewal with Axon beginning in 2027. They list these annual amounts:
| Payment month | Listed amount |
|---|---|
| October 2027 | $80,254.91 |
| October 2028 | $78,641.90 |
| October 2029 | $78,641.90 |
| October 2030 | $78,641.90 |
| October 2031 | $78,641.90 |
The $394,822.51 total is the sum of those five entries. It is not an invoice or a separate price for cameras alone.
Captain Tyler Moyer’s September 9 memo, on page 10 of the October 5 packet, says the existing contract expires in 2027. He sought authority to execute the renewal by December 18, 2026, to retain pricing before an expected increase. The first renewal payment would be due in October 2027.
That explains why an approval in 2026 has a later payment schedule. The memo’s statements about equipment reliability and operational benefits are the department’s assessment, rather than independent test results. The records reviewed do not establish a completed contract signature or the number and models of cameras included.
What officials said about automated reports
The second page of the minutes records a resident’s concern about an automated police report writing system associated with the product. It says the police response was that the department was not using that feature.
That is an account of the October 5 discussion. It does not establish what features a signed renewal would include, a permanent restriction on future use or a fresh inspection of the department’s software.
Server and library camera proposals are separate
The preliminary 2027 budget, on PDF page 136, lists $63,000 for general fund security camera upgrades involving servers and new cameras. A separate library fund line lists $21,000 for security cameras.
Those two entries total $84,000 in proposed 2027 funding. The same table’s $50,000 document digitization entry is a different project. The camera lines should not be described as the price of the Axon body camera renewal.
The October 15 budget message identifies the financial plan as preliminary. The camera table does not establish locations, a selected supplier, storage capacity, retention periods or completed installation. Our separate East Brandywine camera and server guide shows how an actual equipment proposal can supply more of that detail; its specifications do not describe Tredyffrin’s systems.
Records residents can follow
The township’s meeting archive and budget page are starting points for later decisions. For the body camera renewal, useful follow up records would include the signed agreement, equipment and service schedule, and recording and automated report policies. For the proposed camera upgrades, a scope, award and acceptance record would help distinguish plans from completed work.
