Upper Uwchlan budget draft lists new police drone

Residents can review the draft at the October 13 budget workshop in Chester Springs.

Upper Uwchlan Township's draft 2027 budget lists a new police drone among the proposals scheduled for discussion at an October 13 workshop in Chester Springs.

The township's meeting notice places the public workshop at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the Township Building Schoolhouse, 140 Pottstown Pike. The notice invites residents to attend the first draft budget discussion.

What the police proposal includes

The police summary on page 28 of the workshop packet lists an “All weather” drone, a new report management system and LiveScan equipment at the police station. The summary proposes $3,975,313 in police expenditures overall. That department total is not a drone price.

The equipment list supplies no drone model, separate purchase amount or operating specifications. The weather description is the township's wording, without a stated wind or rain tolerance. This is a budget proposal, not confirmation of a purchase or deployment.

Earlier records show an existing drone role

The township's November 2025 workshop packet for the 2026 budget, on page 88, already described cooperation with other agencies on a UAV program. UAV is another term for a drone. That earlier list also included a Live Scan machine at the station as a goal.

The earlier packet helps distinguish a continuing equipment goal from a new item in the draft. It does not establish when a Live Scan machine was purchased or put into service.

A separate March 15, 2025 account from Friendship Fire Company No. 2 described training with Upper Uwchlan police the previous month at Pickering Valley Elementary School. The fire company said participants practiced flights with limited or unavailable GPS positioning and maneuvering near walls and obstacles.

That account documents earlier joint training. It does not identify the equipment proposed for 2027 or establish the performance of a future purchase.

What residents can examine next

For residents reviewing the proposal, useful questions include the full purchase and maintenance cost, the intended missions, pilot training, and rules for retaining or sharing recorded images. Those are questions for the budget and procurement record, not specifications supplied by the short equipment list.

A separate equipment case, our East Brandywine camera upgrade guide, explains how server, audio and cabling requirements appear in project records. It distinguishes an approved purchase and deposit from confirmation of completed work.

Residents planning to attend should recheck the official workshop listing for any schedule changes and use its Download Agenda link to read the packet. The meeting details were checked before publication on October 13, 2026.

Update, October 18, 2026: Added a camera integration guide as a procurement example. The original workshop date, publication time and earlier source check dates are preserved; this addition does not report the workshop outcome.
