Tredyffrin Township residents can still reach municipal pages at tredyffrin.org while the township works toward a .gov website and email transition. Its public contact page already lists a .gov email address.
For residents checking a message about township business, the distinction matters: a government domain identifies an eligible government organization, while email authentication is a separate technical safeguard.
What Tredyffrin has announced
The township’s May 5, 2026 announcement describes a gradual move to Tredyffrin.gov during 2026, with the goal of finishing by the start of 2027. It says Public Works and new full time employees were among the first email users to move.
On October 26, the township’s public website remained accessible at its .org address. The administration and contacts page listed [email protected] and the municipal telephone number, 610 644 1400. Those published details do not establish that every staff mailbox or website redirect has completed the move.
What the government domain establishes
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which manages .gov registration, limits those domains to verified U.S. government organizations. It checks the requester’s identity and the organization’s eligibility.
That is different from ordinary .org registration. It gives residents a useful way to identify a government’s online presence, but it is not a review of each email’s contents.
The township announcement says correspondence from its new domain comes from a verified employee account. CISA’s domain security guidance supplies an additional distinction: senders can impersonate an organization’s domain in email. The agency recommends DMARC, an authentication policy that tells receiving mail systems how to handle messages that fail its checks.
The domain change alone therefore should not be treated as approval to open an attachment, provide a password or act on a payment request. This is general verification advice, not a finding that Tredyffrin’s email has been compromised.
Registration and migration are different jobs
CISA provides .gov registration without a fee, but does not host the websites or email. Its migration checklist separately addresses keeping the old domain, redirecting website traffic and arranging continued delivery to old email addresses.
For residents, that means a planned domain change does not itself answer when an old bookmark will redirect or how long an old staff address will deliver mail. The township’s notice gives a broad completion goal rather than a dated schedule for those individual steps.
How to check a township message
The Federal Trade Commission advises contacting an organization through a website or number already known to be genuine, rather than using contact details supplied in a suspicious message.
For Tredyffrin business, open the township website independently and use its contact directory, or call 610 644 1400 to confirm an unexpected request. Do not assume that replacing .org with .gov in an old address will reach the intended person; check the published listing.
