Chester County PennDOT closure: Online options

Malvern and Oxford PennDOT centers close October 10 through 12. Check online renewal options, photo requirements and local computer access.

Chester County residents planning a PennDOT visit this weekend will need to use an online service or arrange another day. Pennsylvania's driver license and photo centers will be closed from Saturday, October 10, through Monday, October 12, 2026, for the Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day holiday, according to PennDOT's October 5 announcement.

The closure affects the PennDOT centers listed in Malvern and Oxford. Online transactions remain available, but renewing a license online and getting a new photograph are separate steps.

Which Chester County locations are affected?

PennDOT's location finder, filtered for Chester County, lists two locations:

  • Malvern / Frazer Driver and Photo License Center, in Lincoln Court Shopping Center at 225 Lancaster Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355.
  • Oxford Photo License Center, at Wiggins Auto Tags, 310 Limestone Road, Oxford, PA 19363.

The distinction matters when planning the next trip. Malvern provides driver license and photo services. Oxford is listed as a photo center, not a full driver license center. The same distinction appears on page 1 of PennDOT's location flyer.

The closure notice covers PennDOT services. For a private messenger or agent's other business, PennDOT advises calling ahead about holiday hours. Do not assume every service at a shared address follows the same schedule.

What can be handled online?

PennDOT says its online services operate around the clock. Start at the agency's Online Driver and Vehicle Services page, which links to vehicle registration renewal, license and photo ID services, address changes, driver history requests and test scheduling.

The agency does not add a fee simply for using those online services. That does not mean the underlying renewal or other transaction is free. Follow the requirements and charges shown for the specific service you select.

For a driver's license or photo ID renewal, the page says a camera card arrives by mail within 14 days. It identifies the printed receipt as a temporary driving document. A photo visit can therefore remain part of the process after an online renewal.

PennDOT's service table says a camera card is required to have a picture taken at a photo center. It also separates scheduling a road test online from taking the test at a driver license center or an authorized testing location.

Check access before relying on a weekend trip

PennDOT's current alerts say its Driver and Vehicle Services call center will also close October 10 through 12. The same page warns that some customers may need more than one login attempt to reach online services. Check that page for current notices before starting.

Residents who need a computer can review our Exton library laptop guide for borrowing rules. Allow for a separate local closure: Chester County Library in Exton and Henrietta Hankin Branch in Chester Springs list Monday, October 12, as a staff in service closure.

Before traveling after the holiday, reopen PennDOT's location finder and select the service you need. The agency says selecting several services returns locations that offer all of them. That is especially useful when deciding whether a photo center can handle the whole visit.
